The odyssey of the main Persona games onto Xbox and PC platforms continues this year, with Persona 5 Royal hitting PC and Xbox this October 21, 2022.

The Persona series has had its foray onto non-Sony platforms before. Spin-offs, most recently Persona 5 Strikers, have historically been released for other platforms. The success of Persona 4 Golden when it was made available on Steam led this wave of the main games of the series being ported onto other platforms.
Persona 3 Portable, as the name suggests, was a port of Persona 3 for the PlayStation Portable. This is also the only game out of the three where players have the option to play as a female protagonist. P3P was initially released in 2009, and perhaps ATLUS has realized the value that porting these games, despite old, give them. They first tapped PC players with Persona 4 Golden. Persona 4 Golden was the first main game in the series to come to a platform outside a Sony console. Serving as an expanded version of the PlayStation 2 title Persona 4, Persona 4 Golden was an exclusive for the PlayStation Vita since its 2012 release until it became available for Windows on June 2020. Persona 5 Royal is arguably the most popular game of the series, and is the enhanced version of the base Persona 5 game. It was initially released in Japan in 2019, followed by the worldwide release on 2020. The hack-and-slash spin-off Persona 5 Strikers were released worldwide in 2021 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game has also had countless collaborations with third-party media, such as mobile games, merchandise, and more. Due to its iconic art style and characters, Persona 5 became a pop culture hit. With its port coming to Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and PC in October 21, 2022, it's sure to expand its already huge fanbase.
