New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday went back to the locker room early against the Indiana Pacers after suffering an injury due to a head-to-head collision with Pacers big man Domantas Sabonis.

A cut opened on Holiday's head as a result of the impact and after he shot his free throw, the referee stopped the play due to Holiday's bleeding.

The Pelicans staff were unable to get the cut closed up in the huddle and Holiday was sent back to the locker room, per Andrew Lopez of ESPN.

Prior to the collision, Holiday had logged 17 minutes and recorded six points on 3-of-9 shooting to go along with five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. The tough-as-nail guard managed to return to the game.

This season, the former All-Star is averaging 19.2 points, 6.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game on 44-34-71 shooting splits. Previous injuries have already forced Holiday to miss eight of the Pelicans' 52 games this season.

The Pelicans' backcourt of Holiday, Lonzo Ball, and J.J. Reddick have led New Orleans to a 21-31 record through 52 games while first-time All-Star Brandon Ingram has elevated his game to a whole new level this season.

Since highly-touted rookie Zion Williamson's first game on January 22, the Pelicans are 4-4. The Pelicans still have an outside shot of making the playoffs this season as the team is only five games behind the Memphis Grizzlies for the eighth seed.
