At this point in the 2017-18 NBA season, the Sacramento Kings find themselves grouped towards the bottom of the West standings along with three other conference foes. Many fans are already looking towards next season and are curious as to which veteran players will actually return to the Kings.

According to a recent article written by Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee, one Kings veteran player who could certainly opt out of his contract is Garrett Temple.

“Some inside and outside of the Kings’ organization believe would be the most likely candidate to move on would be Temple. He’s a solid player, due $8 million next season, and could help a lot of contending teams. But Temple, who will be 32 to start next season, might be taking a risk by walking away from guaranteed money in hopes of a bigger payday,” Jones said.

Temple, who is in his second full season with the Kings, is averaging a career-high 8.4 points on 41.5 shooting from the field, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game in roughly 25.0 minutes of action per contest.

Jones does think that both center Kosta Koufos and shooting guard Iman Shumpert, who also have player options at the end of this season, could be back with the Kings next year.

“Kosta Koufos, Iman Shumpert, and Garrett Temple all have player options for next season. The market for players who are not in the elite category of a LeBron James or a Paul George isn’t expected to be robust. So it’s likely all three Kings pick up their options for next season,” Jones said.

The Kings who played the second game of a five-game homestand tonight against the Utah Jazz at Golden 1 Center, recently stopped a five-game losing streak on Thursday night when they rallied to a 116-111 overtime victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Unfortunately, it's back to the losing game once again after they lost to the Jazz, 98-91.
