Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis was definitely the biggest fish on the trade market when he announced in the middle of last season that he wanted out of the New Orleans Pelicans. The New York Knicks were one of the teams after Davis, and they were reportedly on his trade list.

Recently, the 6-foot-10 big man looked back on his colorful journey over the summer, and he confirmed his interest in the Knicks:

“Every team was on my list at the time, and then I kind of cut it down, and [the Knicks] were one of the ones that made the final cut,” Davis said on WFAN Sports Radio's Boomer & Gio podcast.

As we all know, the Lakers were always on top of Davis' list, but the Knicks were a desired destination as well. Davis went on to explain exactly why he had the Knicks on that list:

“I talked to some guys over there who were still there, and I feel like playing for an organization like that, especially New York, it'd be something that I was always interested in,” he said. “You see ‘Melo was there and the history that the Knicks have and a historical franchise it is, I thought it was something I could definitely be a part of.”

Unfortunately for the Knicks and their supporters, this narrative is likely to further dampen their spirits. This is yet another “what could have been” scenario for them — something they have gotten used to of late.

While the Lakers are enjoying a dominant start with Davis in tow, the Knicks have a 7-21 record and have already fired their coach after missing out on all the stars this past summer.
