Now that the New York Knicks have rid themselves of Carmelo Anthony, the biggest obstacle for Kristaps Porzingis’ ascension as the team’s unquestioned franchise cornerstone is also gone. The alpha male status is there for the taking for the Latvian unicorn.

With Anthony no longer there to shadow his shine, Porzingis believes that a bigger load that awaits him next season would translate to an All-Star campaign.

Porzingis has come a long way since being booed during the 2015 NBA Draft in which he was selected fourth overall by the Knicks. In just two seasons in the league, Porzingis has progressed into becoming a player projected to be a superstar and MVP candidate one day. After proving his critics wrong in his rookie season when he averaged 14.3 points per game, Porzingis continued to improve the following campaign. He finished second on the team, next to Anthony, last season in points with 18.1 per game.

The Knicks don’t have the shiniest of starting lineups nor a deep bench to expect success from the team this season, but with Porzingis, at least they have someone that should still make them watchable.

New York is going to go as far as where Porzingis takes the team.
