Small forward Marcus Morris says playing for the New York Knicks will allow him to see his family a lot.

Morris is from Philadelphia. The veteran swingman signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Knicks. Morris backed out of his two-year, $20 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs and turned down a three-year, $41 million contract from the Los Angeles Clippers.

Morris and agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports mutually agreed to part ways.

Morris says he also valued his family and the close proximity to his hometown Philadelphia as part of the reasons he chose New York.

“Playing close to home, being from Philly, I get to see my family a lot.”

After missing out on Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in free agency, the Knicks signed Marcus Morris, Julius Randle, Taj Gibson, Wayne Ellington, Elfrid Payton and Bobby Portis. The six veterans will provide toughness to New York's young core, which is headlined by RJ Barrett, Kevin Knox, Mitchell Robinson and Dennis Smith Jr.

This past season with the Boston Celtics, Morris averaged 13.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 44.7 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 84.4 percent from the free-throw line.
