Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan may have retired, but Kristaps Porzingis and Karl-Anthony Towns are ready to fill the voids they left behind.

Both players are standout big men from the 2015 draft class, but their story starts before hitting the basketball court.

Towns was a guide for Porzingis because he was new to the country, and the latter tells Marc Berman of the New York Post how they always kept in touch.

“I always had a lot of questions for him about college, he had a lot of questions for me coming from Europe. We interacted a lot. We’re staying in contact, text a lot. We always look forward to the next opportunity to play each other.”

Porzingis has improved dramatically in his second NBA season averaging 21.4 points and 7.2 rebounds, but he isn't afraid to give props to Towns for his improvement as well.

“He’s playing at a real high level, he’s going to be a big star in this league and I’m looking forward to having a long rivalry against him. He can do anything he wants on the floor. He can shoot from outside, drive from outside, postgame, big strong rebounder.”

On Wednesday night, the two had the chance to square off for the first time this season, and it wasn't a disappointment.

The New York Knicks won the game over the Minnesota Timberwolves, 106-104, with the two seven-footers shining. Porzingis finished the game with 29 points and eight rebounds, while Towns finished with 47 points and 18 rebounds.

The matchup can be perfectly summed up in four words. The future is bright.
