The legend of Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso grew considerably in the offseason, with the third-year floor general now making headlines for shaving his “iconic” mustache.

“[I shaved it] over the summer, [my] recent girlfriend said she wasn't a ‘fan,' so you pick your battles, and any man can attest to that,” Caruso explained.

The 25-year-old Caruso was an undrafted free agent from Texas A&M in 2016. He initially signed a training camp deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder before being cut prior to the start of the 2016-17 NBA season. After that, he signed a two-way contract with the Lakers, spending the past two seasons appearing in 62 total regular-season games.

The Lakers finally signed Caruso to a full-term deal in the summer, inking the former Aggie to a two-year, $5.5 million deal.

In recent months, Caruso has been the subject of fans' jokes due to his non-jocky appearance on one of the most recognizable franchises in sports. While the Lakers had a successful summer in acquiring Anthony Davis and signing veterans Danny Green, Jared Dudley and DeMarcus Cousins (before the center went down with an injury over the summer), fans still saw losing the Kawhi Leonard race to the Staples Center rival LA Clippers as a failure.

Subsequently, Caruso has been the mocking face of LA's offseason haul, with fans joking he's all they need to be highly competitive.

Caruso averaged 9.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 21.2 minutes per game for the Lakers last season, appearing in 25 contests and starting in four while shooting 44.5 percent from the field, 48.0 percent from 3-point range and 79.7 percent from the free throw line.
