Colin Cowherd can see the future. Well, probably not. But the FOX Sports personality suggested as much on Thursday's edition of The Herd, insisting that LeBron James' time competing for championships is over due to the widespread of dysfunction of the Los Angeles Lakers.

“The title runs for LeBron are over,” Cowherd said. “I don't see hope going forward. It's a roster with no shooters; they had two good ones – Lou Williams, Brook Lopez – they gave 'em both away. I don't think this is a place where agents are driving young stars. I don't think Kawhi Leonard and Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant, although not young, I don't think they want any part of this mess.

“The Lakers have had the worst record in the NBA over the last six years,” he continued. “They're no longer a well-run organization.”

Cowherd makes some good, if obvious, points here, save for the fact that Lou Williams ever had a chance of wearing forum blue and gold with James as his teammate. The reigning Sixth Man of the Year was traded to the Houston Rockets for a late first-round pick at the 2017 trade deadline, over a year before James signed with the Lakers.

Otherwise, though, Los Angeles' sustained inability to build a lasting culture and utter failure in building a roster around James in free agency last summer pretty much speak for themselves. The Lakers constantly teetering on the edge of major change – via players, coach, management, and even ownership – is just as telling, too.

As for the notion that Los Angeles will be unable to reel in a big fish in free agency over the next two summers, though? Considering James recently told Bleacher Report he's “very confident” in his ability to lure star players to the Lakers, Cowherd's dissenting belief should be chalked up to nothing more than speculation based on the team's constant instability.
