Dennis Schroder made it very clear that he wants to start for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020-21.

But the eight-year veteran point guard may not necessarily get his wish.

When asked whether Schroder would be the Lakers starting point guard when the season begins on Dec. 22, in a matchup with the Los Angeles Clippers, head coach Frank Vogel was non-committal.

“I haven't made any final decisions on that. It's definitely something I want to look at,” Vogel told reporters on Wednesday, via Ryan Ward of Lakers Daily. See how he and LeBron look together sharing the ball-handling responsibilities.”

Schroder came off the bench for Oklahoma City Thunder, behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chris Paul. Schroder excelled in the role, finishing as the runner-up in Sixth Man of the Year voting.

Soon after trading for Schroder in November, the defending champions added the winner of the 2019-20 Sixth Man of the Year award, ex-Clippers big Montrezl Harrell.

On Nov. 30, Schroder was not hesitant about expressing his desire to be in the Lakers' starting five for his new team.

“I did this off the bench stuff already for two years with OKC,” Schroder said. “I think I will try to move forward, and I think with A.D. [Anthony Davis] and LeBron, I can be helpful as a starter at the PG position so that LeBron don't have so much stuff in his mind.”

Schroder noted that his agent has been in discussions with the team over his role, but declined to elaborate.

Schroder averaged 18.9 points, 4.0 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 65 games for Oklahoma City last season, starting twice.
