Dion Waiters is signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

During his meeting with the Lakers, Waiters owned up to his mistakes with the Miami Heat, according to Charania.

Waiters played in only three games for the Heat this season because of suspensions. He averaged 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 38.5 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from beyond the arc.

Waiters most likely had to convince Lakers superstar LeBron James he’s physically and mentally ready to be on a championship contender. James and Waiters were teammates on the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs wound up trading Waiters to the Oklahoma City Thunder in James’ first season back in Cleveland following his four-year run with Miami.

Dion Waiters, who was the fourth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of Syracuse, has career NBA averages of 13.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists.
