It might not be long until we see the Philadelphia 76ers retire the great Kobe Bryant's old number retired by the franchise and hanging from the rafters. Although the late Los Angeles Lakers icon never played a single minute for the Sixers, Bryant broke numerous records playing for Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Philadelphia which will forever link the Black Mamba to the City of Brotherly Love.

“That's something that Daryl Morey, Doc Rivers, and Elton Brand will weigh on for sure. That's something that Chris Heck the President of the 76ers will weigh on.” Scott O'Neill told Bally Sports (via Scoop B. Robinbson).

O'Neill was of course the previous CEO of the Sixers before stepping down in the summer after an eight-year tenure.

Kobe famously sported the numbers 8 and 24 in his time with the Lakers where he was a five-time NBA champion, a one-time league MVP, and an 18-time All-Star. A ton of tributes has been done around the league since his tragic passing in January 2020, alongside his daughter Gigi and seven others.

Initially, the Sixers already honored Kobe with a jersey ceremony right after his passing. The team also warmed up with commemorative Kobe Bryant jerseys shortly after the tragic accident.

If the rumors are indeed true, then this will be another huge way to honor Kobe's legacy in the city of Philadelphia. Hopefully, we get to see #33 hanging up there so we may all never forget Bryant's impact, not just on the city, but the entire sport of basketball.
