Two players on the Los Angeles Lakers have tested positive for COVID-19, the team said Thursday in a statement. The names of the players were not made public in the statement.

After four players on the Brooklyn Nets tested positive for the coronavirus, the Lakers provided testing for players who wanted it on Wednesday. The Lakers played the Nets on March 10 at Staples Center in both team’s final games before the NBA suspended its season. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, “The team may test the remaining players who did not take tests Wednesday”.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver suspended the season after Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell tested positive for the coronavirus. As of Thursday, there have been 14 confirmed cases on seven different teams. Now that multiple teams are finding positive tests for the coronavirus, it’s possible that every team will start undergoing testing. According to Silver, eight of the league's 30 teams have been tested.

Nevertheless, players will be able to travel outside of the city where they play, however, they must remain in the country. NBA team facilities will also be closing to players and team staff to prevent any additional cases.

Before the season was suspended, the Lakers led the Western Conference with a record of 49-14. Lebron James was having a phenomenal season, averaging 25.7 points, 10.6 assists, and 7.9 rebounds in 34.9 minutes per game.

The NBA will remain suspended until June at the earliest. Charania also revealed that the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics had players who tested positive.
