LeBron James officially signed his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday and went out to a sushi restaurant in Southern California to celebrate with some interesting company. According to TMZ, James and his wife went out with his former teammate Tristan Thompson and Khloe Kardashian.
It's interesting that James chose to celebrate with a player who is still under contract with the Cavs, but there is probably nothing more to read into it then the two are just good friends.
James was the one who pushed the Cavs to get Thompson the big contract, so maybe with James signing his new deal, Thompson was just trying to say thank you. After the contract was officially signed Magic Johnson released a statement on the deal.
“Today is a great day for the Lakers organization and Lakers fans all over the world to welcome LeBron James, a three-time NBA Champion and four-time NBA MVP,” said Lakers President of Basketball Operations Earvin “Magic” Johnson. “LeBron is special. He is the best player in the world. He loves to compete and is an awesome leader who is about winning and making sure that his teammates are successful. The Lakers players are excited to have a teammate who has been to nine NBA Finals. It’s a huge step closer to returning the Lakers to the playoffs and to the NBA Finals.”
James and the Lakers still have a long ways to go to get back to that point but getting the best player in the world is a good start.
