LeBron James has officially given the number 23 jersey to Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis.

On Instagram, James posted a photo of himself together with Davis — who's holding up his new no. 23 Lakers jersey.

James posted the photo a day after the trade became official. To recall, the trade was first announced on June 15 but the Lakers and the Pelicans had to include other teams to make the trade possible.

During the wait, a few fans wondered what jersey number Davis would wear. After all, since his high school days, Davis has been wearing no. 23. And for the majority of his career and stint with the Lakers, James, too, has been donning the same jersey number.

But James himself put an end to all the questions. OnTwitter, the four-time league MVP hinted that he will give up the no. 23 and go back to no.6 — his jersey during his stint with the Miami Heat and with Team USA.

Fans were hyped up about it. After all, when James wore no. 6, he put up some of the best numbers of his career. More importantly, he won his first two rings and created a dynasty with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Will this be some sort of passing of the torch? Will James, for the first time in his career, take a step back and let another player lead the team?
