The Los Angeles Lakers have had a revolving door of rotation players this season, thanks to injuries and the dreaded health and safety protocols.

In a Lakers season with few constants thus far, Malik Monk has been a consistent contributor for the purple and gold. But before joining LA, Monk battled frustration with the lack of interest for him around the league.

Via Bill Oram of The Athletic:

“It kind of hit me hard when nobody really wanted me besides the Lakers, man,” Monk said. “It was hard for me. Some days, I didn’t know what to think.”

Malik Monk had a right to be perplexed with the situation, given that he had a relatively productive season with the Charlotte Hornets off the bench. But with the spotlight on him and the most minutes per game he's been given for his career with the Lakers, he may have landed in the perfect situation to showcase his talents.

Monk said he took the slight as motivation and “put fuel in my tank and just held it until the time … I get to play, man, and prove that I can play for a long period of time.”

The Lakers taking a flier on Monk has clearly paid dividends, especially after his return from health and safety protocols. In the five games since his return, he's averaged 20.0 points on a stellar 57.4% from the field.

Malik Monk was given a chance to shine in Los Angeles – and he's making the most of it.
