Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James will be the star in “Space Jam 2” and his business partner, Maverick Carter, hopes there will be a role for Chicago Bulls legend and the star of the first film, Michael Jordan.

The filming of “Space Jam 2” will reportedly take place during the summer of 2019. Carter says James and Jordan haven't discussed the movie, but states if Jordan wants to be in the film, he will be, per Marisa Guthrie of The Hollywood Reporter.

“We'll see,” says Carter, “Hopefully there will be a role for Michael if he wants it. But Michael Jordan is Michael fu**in' Jordan. It doesn't matter [if James] calls him, he's gonna do whatever the hell he wants, which he has earned that right to do.

“LeBron and Michael are not sitting around talking about Space Jam.”

It's been nearly 22 years since “Space Jam 1” came out with Jordan as the protagonist. Fans of the film have been clamoring for a sequel, and now they'll get their wish, with “The King” as the mainstay this time.

LeBron James signed a four-year deal with the Lakers in July after his second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now that James is in Los Angeles, the four-time MVP will be producing and starring in multiple TV shows and movies.

The main reason James is in L.A., though, is to bring the Lakers back to prominence. The franchise hasn't been to the postseason since 2013 and has endured five-straight losing seasons. Along with James, the Lakers also signed Rajon Rondo, Michael Beasley, JaVale McGee, and Lance Stephenson.
