The Los Angeles Lakers may have a roster led by two top five players in LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but Kyle Kuzma will have to play a major role for the Lakers this coming season.

As a matter of fact, a Western Conference scout believes Kuzma may still have to be a focal point at certain junctures:

“Kuzma will need to prove he can be a reliable third scoring option, because AD and LeBron will miss games and they have mostly specialists now,” said the scout, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN. “Kuzma is going to have to carry the load at times.”

That is a very good point.

We know that Davis has been injury-prone throughout his career, and while he has yet to truly suffer a major injury, he tends to miss a handful of games year in and year out due to nicks and bruises.

As for James, not only will he sit out some games merely to manage his minutes, let's not forget he missed over a month with a groin injury this past year, marking the first time in his career he sustained a significant injury. He turns 35 years old in December, so it's entirely possible James' body may be legitimately starting to break down.

Due to all of that, Kuzma may certainly have to carry the Lakers for stretches, and even if he is clearly the No. 3 guy on the totem pole, he may have to be No. 1 on some nights.
