Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis is on pace to become the first of small forward LeBron James' teammates to ever lead the team in scoring.

Before the season started, James said he wanted Davis to be the “focal point” of the Lakers’ offense. One Western Conference coach who spoke to Joe Vardon of The Athletic says he would run LA's offense through LeBron, although it depends on what the word “through” means for the Lakers:

“If ‘through’ means to create, then it’s LeBron James,” one rival Western Conference coach said. “If ‘through’ is to produce and finish, then probably A.D. I would play through LeBron.”

Another opposing coach said the Lakers feature Anthony Davis, sure, but no more than the Cavaliers featured Irving at the height of their partnership in Cleveland.

In his first season with the Lakers, Davis has been a monster on both ends of the court. He’s averaging 27.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 blocks while shooting 50.4 percent from the field, 29.7 percent from beyond the arc and 85.9 percent from the free-throw line.

James, meanwhile, is playing like an MVP now that he's healthy again. The King is putting up 25.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 10.8 assists and shooting 48.6 percent overall, 34.7 percent from the 3-point line and 68.8 percent from the charity stripe.

Behind James and Davis, the Lakers have the best record in the Western Conference at 30-7. It doesn't really matter who takes more shots. As long as LeBron and AD are each dominating the game, the Lakers will be fine.
