The Los Angeles Lakers have waived guard David Nwaba, the team announced today.

His release comes at a time where the organization has made a hard push for the recently-snatched Kentavious Caldwell-Pope on a one-year, $18 million balloon deal.

The Lakers also met with point guard Rajon Rondo, who was presumably offered a similar one-year offer, as president Magic Johnson tries to keep the books clear for the 2018 offseason in order to land soon-to-be free agent Paul George.

A D-League product, Nwaba impressed during his two starts and 20 total games with the organization, averaging 6.0 points on 58 percent shooting and 3.1 rebounds in 19.9 minutes of action per game.

If the move is indeed a roster-clearing one for Rondo's arrival, he'll be asked to play a mentorship role — one that he took upon himself to keep during his short stint with the Chicago Bulls last season.

Described as one of the best minds at the point guard position, the likes of Lonzo Ball and Jordan Clarkson can soak in a lot of information, picking his brain in various game scenarios.
