San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman is set to take part in yet another Super Bowl. The outcome could have been vastly different had he opted to sign with the Detroit Lions as a free agent prior to the 2018 campaign.

The Lions were reportedly set offer Richard Sherman a richer contract than what the 49ers had provided. According to David Lombardi of The Athletic, he revealed that it simply was not the right fit:

“But that’s not the kind of football I want to play,” Sherman said. “The way you run their scheme, your culture. You want to do it the Patriots’ way and that’s really not the way I do football. I have fun. I like music at practice. I like to hang out and be relaxed in meetings. I don’t like the stressful environment in football. (The Lions) condition every day after practice. My body isn’t built to run all day and night. I’ll be prepared, but I don’t have to be run into the ground.”

The affinity Richard Sherman has for the Bay Area and a more relaxed lifestyle is certainly understandable. After all, he is a Los Angeles native that went on to star at Stanford before kickstarting his career up north with the Seattle Seahawks. The Lions lost out.

It seems only natural that Richard Sherman stood on the West Coast to begin his resurgence, as opposed to joining the Lions.

This is opposite from the no-nonsense approach that stems from head coach Matt Patricia's background with the New England Patriots. The fact that it deterred Richard Sherman from taking a meeting with the Lions is hardly a promising sign for their future prospects.

Regardless of how much truth there is to the matter, there is no denying that Richard Sherman ultimately made the right choice to join the 49ers and not the Lions.
