When news broke out that Paul George has already informed the Indiana Pacers that he intends to become a free agent next summer, it did not come as a complete shock to many as it was already expected from him. What turned out to be a shocker was him directly saying that he prefers to sign with his hometown team, the Los Angeles Lakers.

Although George has long been rumored to possibly joining the team he cheered for growing up, he further cemented the belief by voicing out that they are on top of his list. After finding out his intentions, Lakers President for Basketball Operations, Magic Johnson, was obviously pleased, as his team is very likely pursue the four-time All-Star forward next year. He even took to his Twitter account to express his happiness and excitement.

Since suffering an injury back in 2014, George has recovered completely and is not showing any signs of being hampered by it. This past season, he has averaged a career-best 23.7 points, together with 6.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, leading the Pacers to a playoff appearance.

His potential addition to the Lakers would give them the star that they have been yearning for the past couple of seasons, and it would also allow him to stay close to family. Obviously, Johnson is already looking forward to seeing him wear the Purple and Gold jersey, and if the Lakers extend a max offer to him once he becomes a free agent, coupled with a roster that promises to eventually contend in the near future, chances are Paul George would be coming home.
