Isaiah Thomas used to fantasize about teams bringing out the “Brink’s” truck on the negotiation table. That’s no longer the case today, though, as Thomas continues to be without a new contract with teams seemingly unsure what quality of basketball they can get from a sub-six-foot point guard who is coming off a hip surgery.

An earlier report appeared to have pointed to the direction that Thomas is bound to call Orlando his new NBA home, but according to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, talks are currently going to exercise patience, thus casting a cloud over the possibility of bringing the spitfire point guard over to Disneyland.

So word in Vegas is Orlando Magic talked with Isaiah Thomas but unlikely to move forward with a deal. Magic may hold the line at this point and see what else develops. They want to stay flexible in case something opens up. Did it last year with Jonathan Simmons

It’s been a trying year for Thomas. After he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers last season with Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and a draft pick for Kyrie Irving, he played just 15 games for the Cavs before getting shipped again at the trade deadline to the Los Angeles Lakers together with Channing Frye and a pick for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. Then he underwent a hip surgery last March that came at an untimely manner with his contract set to expire in the summer.

With the Lakers signing Rajon Rondo, Thomas practically has no significant role to hope for should he come back to Los Angeles. And it’s not like the Lakers are knocking at his door either.

The Magic remain as the top candidate to sign Thomas, though, the team has also added a new point guard to the team this week by signing another “Isaiah” in former Kentucky Wildcat Isaiah Briscoe.
