The Orlando Magic started off as one of the most surprising teams in the 2017-18 NBA season. Unfortunately, things have taken a turn for the worst as they find themselves in the midst of a six-game losing streak.

Despite their recent struggles, the Magic are pleased with the development of their young core. Among the notable players is fourth-year power forward Aaron Gordon. According to ESPN's Nick Friedell, general manager John Hammond sees Gordon as one of their most important building blocks moving forward.

“You look at a guy like that and say, ‘He's one of those guys as you move forward with, that you got to have,'” Hammond said. “And we feel that way.”

Although Gordon had been mostly known for his high-flying, acrobatic dunks, the former Arizona Wildcat has finally started to develop into the promising young player the Magic drafted him to be.

Gordon is enjoying a spectacular year by averaging career-highs in points, rebounds, and assists. However, the most notable improvement has been in his three-point shot, where he is shooting a career-high 42 percent from deep as well.

The tremendous strides Gordon has made this year will likely make him one of the more sought-after restricted free agents next summer. However, it seems Orlando does not plan on letting him go anytime soon.
