Orlando Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman remains high on former Philadelphia 76ers guard Markelle Fultz.

Fultz is recovering from thoracic outlet syndrome that has sidelined him for the most part of the 2018-19 season. Weltman said that Fultz, whom they acquired from the Sixers last season, is recovering very well and is making progress.

“Markelle is in Orlando and he’s working out and he’s committed,” Weltman told Josh Robbins of The Athletic. “He’s two feet in. I won’t drill down on details, but he continues to make progress and he’s here with our coaches, and we’re very excited about where he is right now.”

The 21-year-old guard was originally selected by the Sixers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. However, Fultz has been hampered by some lingering shoulder trouble, which has seemingly led to an inability to shoot the basketball properly.

It is also worth noting that the Sixers and Boston Celtics swapped first round picks back in 2017, with Boston trading back to select standout forward Jayson Tatum.

Over the course of his first two NBA seasons — both of which came as a member of the Sixers — Fultz appeared in just 33 regular season games while making 15 starts. During that same span, he averaged 7.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists across 20.6 minutes per outing.
