Marina Rodriguez now finds herself in a really good position in her career after defeating Yan Xiaonan at UFC 272. The Brazilian is expected to potentially get a title shot in the near future.

The next step is very obvious as Marina Rodriguez made it clear at the UFC 272 post-fight press conference, that she deserved the next title shot. Carla Esparza is currently expected to get the next crack at the champion though.

Marina Rodriguez recently spoke to Combate and admitted it would take a long time for her to eventually fight for the title. There is currently Carla Esparza set to fight Rose Namajunas for the UFC strawweight title and then she's hoping to fight the winner.

“I asked for it,” Rodriguez said of the UFC strawweight title shot. “I know I still need to improve a little, be a little more convincing in my performances. This fight was a little hard in the beginning, when I was having a hard time finding my range. But that was the time to ask for it and I did. I know it’ll be long, there’s this fight scheduled between Namajunas and Esparza, but I want to fight the winner of that. There’s time for that to happen.”

It will have to be seen if Dana White and the UFC choose to go with Marina Rodriguez next to fight the winner of the Carla Esparza and Rose Namajunas clash. She may have to wait until the end of the year to return for her next fight if she chooses to wait.
