The MLB has been handing out their array of awards in the past week and the managers were shown some love on Tuesday. Despite neither of them winning the World Series, Don Mattingly and Kevin Cash were named Managers of the Year.

Coming into the 2020 MLB season, the Miami Marlins weren't expected to have much success. Just a season ago, the Marlins boasted a dismal 57-105 record, finishing last in the NL East division.

Miami's 57 wins during the 2019 campaign were the third-lowest mark of the organization's history. However, in Don Mattingly's fifth season as the manager of the team, he led the team to a 31-29 record in the shortened season.

After a strong finish to the year, Mattingly and the Marlins advanced to the MLB postseason. Sadly, Miami's impressive run came to a screeching halt in the NL Division Series against the Atlanta Braves.

On the other hand, the Tampa Bay Rays were regarded as possible contenders in the AL East. In 2019, the Rays found themselves in the AL Division Series after going 96-66 in the regular season.

To build off of their success in 2019, Tampa Bay finished first in the AL East with a 40-20 record in 2020. Kevin Cash's team continued to pitch well and hit the ball well en route to making the MLB World Series this season.

Despite making the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers proved to be too much for Tampa Bay, defeating them in six games. Nevertheless, both Mattingly and Cash were well-deserving of winning the prestigious award given the circumstances of both teams.
