The Washington Nationals made their way to Wrigley Field to take on the Chicago Cubs. A pair of former Cubs greats- Jon Lester and Kyle Schwarber- made their long-awaited return and were embraced by Cubs fans. Schwarber received a nice standing ovation on his first trip to the plate.

Schwarber and Lester were key pieces in Chicago for a number of years, so the warm welcome for the Cubs faithful isn't surprising. After that, Schwarber ripped a pitch to center, connecting on a two-run home run to bring the Nats within one of the Cubs.

Schwarber also embraced catcher Wilson Contreras prior to his first at-bat as the two shared a special moment. After all, Schwarber spent his first six seasons in a Cubbies uniform before heading out and signing in the nation's capital in the offseason.

Pitcher Jon Lester also received a standing ovation from the fans in attendance.  Lester totaled 77 wins across six seasons and was part of the dynamic Cubs rotation that also featured Jake Arrieta.

It's safe to say Chicago wouldn't have won the World Series without either of these two players on their side. Unfortunately for the Cubs, their season hasn't gotten off to a promising start as they entered the game with a 19-20 record.

They also sent away Yu Darvish in a blockbuster trade with the San Diego Padres, in turn signaling a rebuild attempt to revitalize the franchise with young prospects and shedding salary in the meantime. It's been rough, but the fans will always have the memories of the World Series to cling on to, and Schwarber and Lester were huge for that.

They will truly embrace reuniting with these two Chicago greats, even though they are part of the opposite clubhouse. For Kyle Schwarber and Jon Lester, this is something they will remember forever.
