Major League Baseball has made a number of changes to the MLB All-Star Game over the years. But it appears they are heading into un-chartered territory. The latest collective bargaining agreement between the Players Union and the league is going to allow the commissioner to add a player to each roster.

But it is not going to be just any player. In addition to the 32 players selected and elected to each team, the commissioner can add one player to in honor of their career achievements. This latest development is likely to have a lasting impact.

This, for example, will allow players like Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera to be a part of the All-Star Game without taking a spot from a player that is more deserving. That's been a problem for baseball, as well as many other professional sports.

Also, if particular circumstances exist, the commissioner can even choose more than one player for each team.

Pujuls is likely to retire at the end of this season. He signed a one-year contract back in St. Louis where his legendary career began. He is the prime candidate for this rule change. The future Hall of Fame slugger is hitting just .189 this season. But normally, everyone would want him to take part in this year's All-Star Game.
