The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays clash in a battle for the AL East! It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Blue Jays-Yankees prediction and pick.

This is going to be one of the better matchups of the entire season. These are two teams that are loaded offensively while also containing elite pitching. Both teams are (3-2) to start the year and have split the first two games of the series. Toronto won game one 4-0 while the Yanks won game two 4-0. Game three should be one for the books and this series is a tone-setter for the rest of these matchups.

Why The Blue Jays Could Cover The Spread

The Jays are sending out Jose Berrios who didn't have the greatest Opening Day. He allowed three hits, four runs, two home runs, and issued two weeks against the Texas Rangers. He only lasted 0.1 innings before being taken out. The ace has an even tougher opponent in the Yankees as their offense can explode any given night. If Berrios can bounce back, however, the Jays will have a chance to cover this spread.

The Jays' lineup is playing pretty well to start the year. They got shut out last night though, and will now have to go up against Gerrit Cole. George Springer is playing well to start the season batting .409 with two home runs and four RBIs. He's slugging .818 with an OBP at .458. Teoscar Hernandez is hitting the ball well also batting .375, but the rest of the lineup needs to really get going.

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

Cole will get back at it after giving up four runs against the Red Sox on Opening Day. He lasted four innings before being taken out but the Yankees still managed to find a way to win the game. This is an important year for Cole. He's one of the better pitchers in the game and he knew he was coming into a tough division before signing in New York. His first full season in NY didn't go as he planned but a 3.23 ERA and 243 strikeouts isn't something to be ashamed about. If Cole gets into his groove tonight the Yankees will be in a position to cover this spread.

The offense is loaded top to bottom and it's only a matter of time until they are scoring a ton of runs. They will be facing Berrios and a Blue Jays bullpen that is struggling. The Yankees have yet to really explode this season. Their highest run total is six and that game in game one. Only Aaron Hicks is batting over .300, so everyone is semi-struggling to get consistent hits. Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton both have two bombs but the rest of the lineup needs to get going. If they can get to Berrios early like the Rangers did, expect the Yankees to win.

Final Blue Jays-Yankees Prediction & Pick

I don't think the Jays will get shut out in back-to-back games. This could be low-scoring or it could turn into a slugfest depending on if these two starters will bounce back. I do like the Blue Jays at +1.5 because I believe this will be a close game. Take Toronto and hope they can get to Cole early.

Final Blue Jays-Yankees Pick: Blue Jays +1.5 (-152)
