The Boston Red Sox will begin a six-game road trip in New York as they take on the Mets at Citi Field on Tuesday night. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Red Sox-Mets prediction and pick.

The Red Sox have split their last three series following their recent nine-game winning streak. The Mets have been mediocre all year, but are coming off of an impressive 4-0 win against Washington in their last game. This should be an exciting series between two teams with high hopes for the 2021 season.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the opening Red Sox-Mets odds.

MLB Odds: Red Sox-Mets Odds

Boston Red Sox +1.5 (-155)

New York Mets -1.5 (+135)

Over 8.5 Runs (-107)

Under 8.5 Runs (-113)

Why The Red Sox Could Cover The Spread

The Boston Red Sox have exceeded expectations following their opening-series sweep against the Baltimore Orioles. Boston recently pulled off a nine-game winning streak but tailed off and are playing .500 ball since. They could really use a big series win against the Mets to get back to their winning ways. The Red Sox have the best road record in the American League at 6-1 this season. They've found a lot of success away from home thanks to their 6.29 runs per game in opposing ballparks. Boston has seen a lot of success at Citi Field of late, winning four of their last five games.

Boston's offense will have to show up in this game as the Red Sox will send out struggling right-hander Garrett Richards for the opener. The hard throwing right-hander has been getting rocked around all year long. He is 0-2 this season with a 6.48 ERA coming in. Richards has to find a way to find the strike zone more often while missing bats if he is going to provide his club with a quality start.

Why The Mets Could Cover The Spread

The New York Mets have been one of the best teams on their home field this season. The Mets have struggled on the road, but are an impressive 6-2 at Citi Field. The pitching has been phenomenal for the Mets, holding opponents to two runs per game at home. Mets pitchers just shut the Nationals out in two of their last three games in the previous series. The offense has shown signs of life and will have to improve with runners in scoring position to get this thing going. New York bats have been slightly better at Citi Field this season, which has to be promising coming into this series.

The New York Mets will send out David Peterson for the opener. Peterson will need a big start against the best lineup in the league after a dreadful performance in his last start against the Cubs. Peterson is currently 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA on the year. Against a struggling arm like Richards, Peterson will just have to give the Mets a quality start and allow the bats a chance to capitalize on a favorable matchup.

Final Red Sox-Mets Prediction & Pick

In an awful pitching matchup, I'm leaning toward to better offense in this game. The Boston Red Sox lead the league in team batting average and OPS. The Mets inability to get hits with runners in scoring position won't bode well against a team that scored runs in bunches. With Jacob deGrom set to throw on Wednesday, the Mets are certainly looking ahead and hoping to at least compete in this one. Boston knows they have to get the bats going tonight with a daunting matchup ahead of them tomorrow.

FINAL PICK: Boston Red Sox +1.5 (-155)
