The three-point contest at the 2019 All-Star weekend will be a family affair, marked by the participation of the Golden State Warriors' Steph Curry and his younger brother, Portland Trail Blazers guard Seth Curry.
Though the pair undoubtedly traded victories in backyard shooting contests throughout their youth, one is an overwhelming favorite to beat the other come All-Star Saturday night. You guessed it: Steph, according to BetOnline.ag, isn't just the favorite to win the event, but his odds of doing so are twice as good as Seth's.
The older Curry comes in at +275 to win the three-point contest, first by a comfortable margin over every other sharpshooter participating. Sacramento Kings star Buddy Hield has the second-best odds of winning at +400, while the Phoenix Suns' Devin Booker, last year's champ, is a +450. The younger Curry, meanwhile, has +600 odds of emerging as the last shooter standing, tied for fourth in the 10-man field with Trail Blazers teammate Damian Lillard.
It makes sense that Las Vegas senses the older Curry, who won the contest back in 2015 with an epic final-round performance to beat fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving, as most likely to win again. He's at or approaching the peak of his seemingly-supernatural powers, and has already established himself as the best shooter ever. But the competition in this event is always top-notch. Curry, after all, has appeared in the shootout on five occasions and won it only once.
Does the younger Curry have a realistic chance? Absolutely. He leads the league in three-point percentage at 48.5, ahead of Hield and Brooklyn Nets guard Joe Harris, also participating in the event, and certainly has the right pedigree. Regardless of rooting interest, we can surely all agree on one thing: The most fun outcome here is for Curry and Curry to go mana-a-mano with the trophy on the line.
