The worst kept secret of the NBA draft is out: Deandre Ayton is the Phoenix Suns' number one overall pick. As it turns out, Ayton might not have just assumed that he was going to be the first overall pick, he might have known. According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, the Suns told Ayton he would be their first pick weeks ago.

After Ayton's workout with the Suns, he told the media that he would be with the number one overall pick, but no one told him that.

“I know I’m going No. 1,’’ he told reporters, according to ESPN. “Nobody told me. That’s just me. I think I deserve that. I’ve worked hard.’’

Ayton is from the Bahamas but he played his high school and college ball in the state of Arizona, and he said it would be a blessing to stay in his second home.

“Everybody knows us now,” he said. “This is our second home, so we just feel welcome, and it would be a blessing if I become the No. 1 pick and stay here and make this home.”

Ayton also said that he thinks that he can start winning with the young core that the Suns have, which is exactly what the fans are hoping for.

“We could really make something happen in Phoenix,” Ayton said. “We could really have a spark and start a winning legacy.”

How Ayton will turn out in the NBA still needs to play out, but this is the most buzz that the Suns organization has had in some time.
