LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers was back in Cleveland facing the Cavaliers. But his return was starkly different from a few years ago.

Right after James' decision of taking his talents to the Miami Heat, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert penned a letter addressed to Cleveland. In it, he promised a championship before LeBron James got one, adding that he'd never betray the whole city. Per Fear The Sword, Gilbert wrote, in part:

“This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his “decision” unlike anything ever “witnessed” in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.”

Subsequently, James' return was met by boos. Fans tagged him as the greatest traitor not just in the history of Cleveland, but in all of sports and the world. These things were pretty much expected to happen. Sports fans are the most passionate type of fans. But looking back, their behavior seemed unwarranted and over-the-top silly.

LeBron James was back in Cleveland Wednesday in his first game back home since inking a four-year deal with the Lakers over the summer. He was met by cheers from the fans who once booed him several years ago. Again, this behavior was expected. James, against all odds, managed to deliver on his promise of winning a championship. Cavaliers fans have no reasons to boo anymore.
