NBA trade rumors between the Utah Jazz and New York Knicks involving Donovan Mitchell have been nonstop for a bit now. However, those supposed negotiations have come to a halt recently, which means a deal may not come to fruition soon, or ever.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the two sides are holding off trade negotiations for the time being. Woj claims the Jazz aren't keen on getting a deal done quickly, as the organization is seeking the best deal possible. Simultaneously, the Knicks don't want to have to give up the farm to obtain a star like Donovan Mitchell:

Based on Wojnarowski's reporting, it sounds like both Utah and New York are still interested in potentially finalizing a trade. If that's the case, then negotiations may ramp up once the 2022-23 season draws closer. Considering the Jazz recently sent Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves, this franchise is likely seeking a deal similar to that trade.

If that's the case, then the Knicks will have to prepare themselves to give up a ton of draft capital. New York has shown the most interest in obtaining Donovan Mitchell, but this front office is smartly taking their time negotiating a trade with the Jazz.

It's likely the Knicks want to maintain the core of their roster. A starting lineup consisting of Jalen Brunson, Donovan Mitchell, RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, and Mitchell Robinson sounds like a dream come true for New York. Meanwhile, the Jazz are obviously seeking a monster trade package, as giving up their superstar shooting guard puts Utah into a long rebuild.

Look for trade talks to pick back up soon. There is plenty of time for the Jazz and Knicks to negotiate this deal, but Utah will likely look elsewhere first before coming back to the table with New York.
