The Brooklyn Nets have released a statement in response to criticisms of obtaining coronavirus tests privately.

The Nets say players and staff were exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, which prompted them to get tested.

Nets superstar small forward Kevin Durant is one of the four Nets players which tested positive for the coronavirus. The two-time Finals MVP, however, is asymptomatic.

Coronavirus tests unfortunately aren't easy to get. The Nets had the luxury of privately getting them and that upset a lot of people in New York since the city has been plagued by the virus.

The NBA season was suspended last week after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive. That was followed by positive tests from Jazz star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell, Detroit Pistons big man Christian Wood and Durant.

It is unknown who the other infected players on the Nets are. Durant didn't have to tell people he tested positive, but it was a noble act from the All-Star forward as he knew his voice would impact a lot of people around the world.

The Nets went 30-34 before the season was suspended. They were in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings. If the season resumes, Brooklyn will continue to play without Durant and Kyrie Irving, who are both recovering from injuries and won't be ready to play even if the season starts up again in June or July.

Both Durant and Irving signed four-year deals with Brooklyn, as did fellow All-Star DeAndre Jordan.
