The past few months have undoubtedly been a trying time for Kevin Durant. Fortunately, it seems the notoriously mercurial superstar has managed to hold onto his sense of humor amid so much turmoil.

In January 2017, six months after he rocked the NBA by signing with the Golden State Warriors, Durant was on hand for the groundbreaking at the site of his new team's arena in San Francisco, even wearing a protective helmet and wielding a shovel. The Chase Center was officially unveiled on Monday, and WarriorsTalk, a popular Warriors blog, marked the occasion by reminding their audience of Durant's updated role in its initial construction.

Now with the Brooklyn Nets, Durant responded with laughs to WarriorsTalk's post about him being “3,000 miles that way.”

Durant announced his plans to sign with the Nets on June 30, shortly before the opening of free agency, bringing Kyrie Irving along with him from the Boston Celtics. He later insisted that if he was going to leave the Warriors in free agency, it was always going to be for Brooklyn.

The two-time Finals MVP enjoyed another dominant yet underrated campaign in 2018-19, averaging 26.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game on elite shooting efficiency. He was playing arguably the best basketball of his career through the first 11 games of the playoffs, averaging 34.2 points on a ridiculous true shooting percentage of 65.2, before going down with a hamstring injury in the second round against the Houston Rockets.

Durant returned to the court in Game 5 of the NBA Finals with Golden State trailing the Toronto Raptors 3-1, but suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon early in the second quarter, an injury likely to sideline him for the duration of the 2019-20 season.
