On the latest installment of the Text Message Show for The Players’ Tribune with Dorell Wright, Brooklyn Nets superstar small forward Kevin Durant spoke about how excited he is to play for Steve Nash.

The Nets hired Nash as their new head coach, a move that sent shockwaves throughout the NBA world since the two-time MVP has zero coaching experience on his belt.

However, Nash and Durant have a close relationship following their three years together on the Golden State Warriors, so that clearly played a part in Brooklyn's decision to hire the Hall of Famer.

Durant, who will make his Nets debut in 2020-21, believes Nash is going to “build a culture in Brooklyn.”

“I'm excited about coach Nash…I think he's gonna build a culture in Brooklyn…having a former player walk the sidelines is always dope to see,” Kevin Durant said about new Nets coach Steve Nash.

“He's a brilliant basketball mind but on top of that he's a great communicator…everything he did on the court was efficient so hopefully he brings that mentality to our team.”

The Nets should be competing for a championship next season with Nash coaching from the sidelines and Durant and Kyrie Irving leading the way on the court.

Assuming Brooklyn doesn't make any star trades this offseason, the team will have a solid supporting cast around Durant and Irving, led by DeAndre Jordan, Caris LeVert, Spencer Dinwiddie and Jarrett Allen.

Nets shooting guard Joe Harris becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason, so it's not a guarantee he'll be in Brooklyn next season since the business of the NBA is so unpredictable.
