The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Brooklyn Nets 122-115 in a Saturday night Western Conference showdown. Trae Young led the Hawks with an impressive 36 point, 10 assist double-double performance. However, it was Nets’ star Kevin Durant who stole the show despite the loss.

KD finished with 55 points in the contest, setting a new career high for the superstar. Durant’s effort was remarkable but ultimately not enough to take down Trae Young and the Hawks. Nonetheless, Durant should be proud of setting a new career high with 55 points. It is a great accomplishment even with the defeat.

He shot an efficient 19-28 from the field to go along with an even better 8-10 showing from beyond the arc in the remarkable effort.

On the season, Kevin Durant is averaging over 29 points per contest. He is shooting over 52 percent from the field and over 37 percent from deep. There is no question that he would be right in the middle of the MVP conversation had he not missed a significant amount of time due to injury.

With the MVP possibility non-existent because of his early season injury, Durant’s main focus will be guiding the Nets to a deep postseason run. However, that goal could be far more challenging than one might expect.

The Nets fell to the 10-seed in the Eastern Conference standings with the loss. With only a handful of games remaining, Brooklyn is destined for the play-in tournament.

Kevin Durant and the Nets will look to finish the regular season on a high note and then take care of business in the play-in games. If KD keeps posting elite numbers, Brooklyn should have a strong chance of overcoming the odds and making some noise in the playoffs.
