The Brooklyn Nets already splashed the cash on a massive $198 million extension on Kevin Durant in August, and it looks like the team is closing in on similar developments for both Kyrie Irving and James Harden.

Brooklyn GM Sean Marks recently provided a key update on the negotiations the team is having with the two other members of the Nets Big 3, and it appears that an extension is imminent for both players:

“We've had very positive conversations with both of those guys,” Marks said, via France24. “We're looking forward to sitting down with them over the next two weeks and furthering those discussions.

“Those guys know exactly how we feel and I think they've been vocal about wanting to be part of this and building this together. I think we've got an opportunity to do something special here for the foreseeable future.”

Irving and Harden both have player options on their respective deals for the 2022-23 season, which means that if they wanted to, they could actually walk away from the Nets at the end of the upcoming season. This is the last thing the team wants, which is exactly why they are doing everything in their power to extend Irving's and Harden's contracts. Needless to say, this will entail a significant investment from the Nets — something that they appear to be more than willing to commit to.

Marks also gave an update on the health of Irving and Harden, who were both out of commission in the playoffs last season due to injury:

“From what we've seen they look great,” Marks said. “Our performance team has been with them, our coaching staff has been with them, spending considerable time with them and can attest that they are in great spirits and are ready to go like the rest of the team.

“It will be a work in progress as to how we proceed with all of our guys, not just James and Kyrie. It's a marathon not a sprint, and we're trying to save those guys from themselves half the time. But they feel good, they look great, so that's a positive.”

Everything appears to be sunny in Brooklyn right now, as the Nets look to live up to the lofty expectations most have on them in 2021-22. Is it going to be championship-or-bust for Brooklyn? It would probably be safe to assume that at this moment.
