According to an official statement released by the school on Monday, former Oklahoma Sooners running back DeMarco Murray has returned to his alma mater. Immediately following a one-year stint as the running backs coach for the Arizona Wildcats, Murray has now agreed to take on the same role at Oklahoma, beginning with the 2020 campaign.

Although already onto his second collegiate coaching job, DeMarco Murray just recently retired from the NFL with his final professional season coming back in 2017 as a member of the Tennessee Titans.

In addition to spending a few seasons in Nashville, DeMarco Murray spent one season with the Philadelphia Eagles after spending the majority of his NFL playing career as a member of the heralded Dallas Cowboys.

“This is a really exciting day, being able to welcome one of our program's all-time best players back to Norman,” said Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley. “DeMarco had a tremendous playing career both at OU and in the NFL and has a passion for coaching and helping young men grow as players and people. He's got an incredibly bright coaching future and will be an outstanding mentor to our players. I don't think there's anyone better to lead our running backs. Everyone in our program is excited to have DeMarco, his wife Heidi and their children as part of our family.”

In addition to leading the NFL in rushing toward the end of his time in Dallas, DeMarco Murray still serves as Oklahoma's career leader in all-purpose yards and career touchdowns.
