The battle for the point guard spot in the new-look Denver Nuggets will continue through the last two preseason games, coach Mike Malone told reporters after today's practice, according to BSN's Harrison Wind.

Malone previously expected to alternate starts between Jamal Murray and Emmanuel Mudiay to determine a starter, but now with Jameer Nelson back and healthy — he will take the next two outings to determine who will have the keys to the point guard position come opening night.

Murray and Nelson have played similar minutes as the 3-0 Nuggets breezed through this preseason, but the second-year guard made the most of his last outing against the Los Angeles Lakers connecting on six of his seven attempts from the field and five of his six three-pointers for 20 points.

Mudiay, who has boasted the more dynamic floor game, has been a turnover machine, racking up a whopping 13 turnovers through three games — a red flag when it comes to Malone's system.

Nelson has been a starter throughout his career and while he likely can merit starting for the Nuggets, it could likely set back the organization's ideal of growing through its youth.

Denver clicked in all cylinders on Wednesday, shooting 54 percent from the field and knocking down 19 of 38 three-point attempts against a hapless L.A. defense, coasting to a 122-104 win.
