Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic will participate in the 2019 FIBA World Cup with his native Serbian National Team, according to a report from the Serbian State News Agency.

“I am very pleased with everything I did in the NBA this season, I had a great year in which I performed at the All-Star Game and was selected in the NBA All-Star Five. For me, the cherry on top of this whole season would be a medal with the national team. I am fully prepared to do my best to achieve this goal”, Jokic said in confirmation.

Jokic enjoyed an excellent 2018-19 campaign in the NBA, though he and the Nuggets were defeated by the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Semifinals, 4-3. Through his 80 regular season games played (all starts), the Joker racked up averages of 20.1 points on 51.1 percent shooting from the field (30.7 percent from beyond the arc), 10.8 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 1.4 steals in 34.3 minutes per outing.

For his outstanding play this season, Jokic earned All-NBA First Team honors. Other players who were recognized with First Team honors for the 2018-19 campaign include Giannis Antetokounmpo, James Harden, Stephen Curry and Paul George.

The 2019 FIBA games will begin on August 31st. Serbia is scheduled to face Angola, the Philippines and Italy in the group stage.
