NBA free agency officially kicked off at midnight, and it got off to a hot start. The Orlando Magic, who have already made a few surprising moves this offseason, were expected to be very active in free agency. It was reported early Friday morning by Adrian Wojnarowski that DJ Augustin and the Magic have agreed to a four-year deal. Chris Broussard later revealed that the deal is worth $29 million.

The Magic have obviously been seeking a culture change this offseason after going out to get experienced head coach Frank Vogel and trading for veterans Serge Ibaka and Jodie Meeks. The addition of Augustin gives them another veteran role player with playoff experience.

Augustin, who averaged 7.5 points and 3.2 assists while shooting 40.5% from behind the 3-point line, will serve as a backup to the young and athletic Elfrid Payton. This move may come as a surprise to some because the Magic added veteran guard C.J Watson last offseason, but, Watson was injured and unable to contribute to the Magic on a consistent basis.

The Magic are just getting started and can be expected to make more moves. Restricted free agent Evan Fournier will probably have his offer sheet matched ,and there other names to watch for Orlando, including Jeff Green, Chandler Parsons, and Cole Aldrich.
