Green Bay Packers star Aaron Rodgers admitted he was “taken aback” when Davante Adams told him he wanted to leave, but the veteran QB understood where his former teammate was coming from.

Adams was eventually traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, with the Packers getting picks no. 22 and 53 in the 2022 NFL Draft in return. Now in his recent talk with reporters, Rodgers spilled the details on his conversation with the star wide receiver and what really pushed Adams to pursue the move.

Rodgers also defended the Packers and their efforts to keep the wideout, albeit to no avail.

“We had some really honest conversations about my future here, and how long I wanted to play, and his own thoughts about his future and where he wanted to play, live and raise his family,” Rodgers shared, per Ryan Wood of Green Bay Press-Gazette.

“The team obviously stepped up and made a competitive, or an even more compelling, offer. Ultimately, Davante thought it was best for him and his family to be in Vegas, so that was tough for sure, but I love Tae and love our connection. I'm a little biased, but it's hard to think of a better player I played with. He had a chance to be the all-time record in a lot of categories at receiver for us. I thought that might be a little nugget that would kind of keep him here, but Tae made a decision that he thought was in the best decision for him and his family, and I can't fault him for that at all.”

Losing Davante Adams is definitely a huge blow to Green Bay. He's one of Aaron Rodgers' best weapons, and the team will surely feel his absence come the new season.

However, it would have been difficult and potentially disastrous if the team tried to keep him even though he no longer wanted to be with the Packers. It is also quite clear that Adams desired to play alongside his college teammate in Derek Carr, hence the move to Las Vegas.

The Packers got significant draft assets in return, and sure enough, they can no longer do anything but move on and try to find a new gem to replace Adams.
