The San Diego Padres have been decimated by injuries this season as a whole. As of late, they have had a lot of issues with their pitching, the latest being Yu Darvish heading to the IL. Well, it appears that they are looking for pitching help, and according to Jon Heyman and Kevin Acee, former Chicago Cubs starter Jake Arrieta is one possible option.

While the Padres didn't add a starter at the MLB trade deadline, nobody envisioned all of these injuries. Ryan Weathers has struggled, and Chris Paddack is also hurt, not to mention Dinelson Lamet and his mysterious return– if he comes back at all.

Arrieta was recently released by the Cubs after some highly criticized comments, not to mention his struggles on the mound.

The veteran right-hander posted a 5-11 record and a 6.88 ERA for the Cubs in 2020, which isn't good whatsoever. Nonetheless, the Padres' options at this point of the year are scarce, and at the very least Arrieta could provide a fresh start for himself and a chance to eat some innings for the Padres.

They are chasing the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, and are suddenly seeing the Cincinnati Reds make up some ground for the second Wild Card spot in the National League.
