Before the season started, New Orleans Pelicans superstar big man Anthony Davis said he was the best player in the NBA because he plays at an elite level on both ends of the floor.

Wednesday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers at home, Anthony Davis showed exactly what he was talking about, blocking two shots in a row versus Cleveland to end the first quarter.

Entering Wednesday, Anthony Davis was averaging 2.6 blocks per game, along with 28.7 points and 13.3 rebounds. Davis has led the NBA in blocks per game three times during his NBA career, most recently last season.

This is why Davis is such a transcendent talent. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Golden State Warriors small forward Kevin Durant are good defenders, but not at the level of Anthony Davis. Toronto Raptors forward Kawhi Leonard is probably the only superstar in the NBA who you can say plays stellar defense like Davis does night in and night out.

New Orleans is only 19-22 on the year. The team has to get it together before they spiral out of control. Davis has been playing like an MVP all year, but his squad isn't winning enough games for AD to be in the MVP conversation.
