After a spectacular performance in Week 1, the Philadelphia Eagles take on the San Francisco 49ers in a tough matchup.

This Eagles-49ers contest has the potential to be the game of the week, especially if Philadelphia can keep it competitive.

It's time to continue our NFL prediction series with an Eagles Week 2 prediction.

The Eagles are the underdog heading into this game, since the 49ers have a stacked team. Even so, Philadelphia has the tools necessary to take San Francisco by surprise.

After seeing the Detroit Lions keep it close with the 49ers in Week 1, it's not too crazy to think the Eagles can do the same.

The backfield belongs to Miles Sanders, but Kenneth Gainwell could make some noise yet again. Philadelphia needs the receivers to step up, which means DeVonta Smith could be in for a big game. Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts looked like the real deal in the season opener, so we should see another big performance from the second-year quarterback. If everything comes together, we could see Philadelphia remain undefeated. With that said, here are four bold Eagles Week 2 predictions against the 49ers.

Eagles Week 2 Predictions

4. Kenneth Gainwell scores another touchdown

Miles Sanders is the featured running back, but the backup on the Eagles has a major role. Many believed that spot belonged to Boston Scott, but in a surprising turn of events, Kenneth Gainwell seems to have won that job. He played a limited role in Week 1 but did secure a rushing touchdown. Look for Gainwell's role to expand; he could find paydirt once again.

3. DeVonta Smith proves why he was Philadelphia's first pick

DeVonta Smith looked stellar against the Atlanta Falcons and will have stiff competition in Week 2. Even so, the Eagles need someone to step up as a legitimate WR1 on the offense. Smith has the tools to be the guy for the job. The 49ers have a much better defense, so expectations for DeVonta Smith should be tempered. Even so, Jalen Hurts is bound to look his way often, which should result in another impressive game for the rookie wide receiver.

2. Jalen Hurts torches 49ers for 300 passing yards and 4 touchdowns

The Eagles have the benefit of a true dual-threat quarterback under center. Hurts can run and throw with the best of them, giving Philadelphia a versatile weapon on the offense. The 49ers may get caught up in the run game, which would open up opportunities for the Eagles' receivers. If that's the case, DeVonta Smith, Jalen Reagor, and Dallas Goedert should be busy all day Sunday.

1. Eagles remain undefeated

San Francisco is the better team on paper, but Philadelphia has an exciting young team trying to prove itself. A victory on Sunday would give the Eagles a 2-0 record, putting them in first place in the NFC East for the time being.

Every win is important in the NFL, but a win against the 49ers would be massive for this franchise. It would give them confidence that would carry on through to Week 3, making the Eagles a dangerous matchup week in and week out.
