Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond has been one of the most promising, young big men in the league for a while now. After a slow start, though, things finally seem to be clicking on all cylinders for Drummond in the 2017-18 NBA season.

Aside from being arguably one of the league's best rebounders, he is also among its most feared shot-blockers. According to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, head coach Stan Van Gundy sees no reason why Drummond cannot top the NBA in both categories:

“You just don’t see that anymore because there’s not as many plays at the rim,” Van Gundy said. “A lot of times guys are driving it and throwing it out, bigs are away from the basket a lot so it’s hard to get the pure numbers that guys had 15 years ago, but relative to everybody else, I love to see him have that goal for himself coming into a season.”

Drummond has long shown promise as an elite rim protector since coming into the league prior to the 2012-13 NBA season. However, he has ramped up his efforts during the second half of the year. Unfortunately, it may be too late for the two-time All-Star to claim the blocks title this season as he is currently averaging 1.7 blocks per game.

Meanwhile, New Orleans Pelicans star big man Anthony Davis is pacing the league with 2.4 blocks per game and has shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon. However, he may still be able to take home the rebounding title once again after recording 15.9 boards per game thus far. The only player still hot on his trail is L.A. Clippers center DeAndre Jordan.
