Rumors have been flying around the NBA after league insider Adrian Wojarnowski announced that the Dallas Mavericks were shopping point guard Dennis Smith Jr. According to NBA columnist Mitch Lawrence, the Detroit Pistons are one of the teams that are looking into potentially acquiring him.

This would be an interesting addition to the Pistons if they can close the deal. Right now, the team is struggling despite having one of the most dominant frontcourts in the league. Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond have both played extremely well this season, but the team still stands at 18-23 at the start of play on Monday. They're currently sitting in 10th place in the Eastern Conference.

One roadblock in the potential trade is current Pistons point guard Reggie Jackson. He is already locked up for next season, and the Pistons are on the hook for his $18 million salary. Smith and Jackson have similar games, and it would be odd to see them start games together.

If the Pistons are really serious about making a playoff push this season, they do need to acquire some backcourt help. Smith would be an intriguing addition to the team, and he could help Detroit lock up a playoff spot — and maybe even make some noise in the first round.
